Prince Andrew’s Reported Reaction to Netflix’s ‘Scoop’ Feels Right on Brand

Well, here’s a movie review we weren’t expecting. Prince Andrew reportedly watched Netflix’s Scoop after it was released last Friday, and he apparently wasn’t that upset by his portrayal.
The Daily Beast is reporting that the Duke of York’s pals confirmed that he was “delighted” by actor Rufus Sewell’s depiction of him. It makes us question whether he saw the same movie we did because we walked away thinking it didn’t make Andrew look so good. The film gives a behind-the-scenes look at how BBC producer Sam McAlister, played by Billie Piper, scored the hard-to-get interview with the royal family member. The disastrous TV moment, where he uncomfortably tried to explain his association with Jeffrey Epstein, led to his downfall.

It’s hard to believe that Andrew was uplifted by the narrative, but an insider gave the outlet an almost-rave review. “Obviously, Andrew regrets doing the interview, and if he had his time again, he wouldn’t do it,” they divulged. “That said, he feels Scoop is much more even-handed than he expected. It’s fair to say he was delighted by Rufus Sewell’s portrayal of him.”
A second pal echoed those sentiments, “I think the show, to the satisfaction of everyone who actually knows the guy, made clear that Andrew was an extremely good convener of people. He did actually play a valuable role for the royals with Pitch@Palace and his other business-focused advocacy work.” We are not sure if this is a PR spin at work, but it seems like everyone at the palace is relieved, not horrified, by the Netflix film. And the second source made sure to take a dig at the BBC program, too. “The irony of course is that Newsnight got gutted anyway [the nightly show was cut to 30 minutes, and more than half of its 60 staff were fired], and Andrew is very much back in the fold,” they added.
Well, a friend close to King Charles III has a very different view of the situation. The monarch probably didn’t watch Scoop, but the “Andrew question” is “settled,” Prince Andrew’s working royal role isn’t happening — like, ever. However, the Duke of York’s Epstein issue will be back sooner versus later because Amazon Video has a three-part series from BBC journalist Emily Maitlis’ point of view on the way. The palace had better brace itself for another round of Prince Andrew headlines.
