Britain’s Prince Andrew “knows the truth” of what he did, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, a woman who has said she was trafficked as a “sex slave” and sexually abused by Jeffrey Epstein, told NBC’s Savannah Guthrie on Friday evening.
In an interview with Guthrie on “Dateline,” Giuffre — who has accused Prince Andrew of having sex with her when she was 17 years old in court filings — shared more details about their multiple interactions at a time when she said she was being trafficked by Epstein and his ex-girlfriend and accused “madam,” Ghislaine Maxwell.
Maxwell has denied the allegations against her.
“Ghislaine woke me up in the morning, excited, and she said, ‘You’re gonna meet a prince today,” Giuffre said of her first encounter with the Duke of York in London. But after a dinner and a night out at an elite night club, where Giuffre said the prince gave her alcohol and danced with her, Giuffre told Gutherie that in the car ride back with Epstein and Maxwell, Maxwell said to her, “I want you to do for him what you do for Epstein.” She then said she was sexually abused by the prince in a bathroom and a bedroom in Maxwell’s London townhouse.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I grew up watching Disney, just like most little girls grow up watching Disney, and princesses and princes were the good people of the world. And he wasn’t.”
Though Buckingham Palace has “emphatically denied” that Prince Andrew had any sexual contact or relationship with Giuffre, she asserted that “he knows the truth.”
“He denies that it ever happened, and he’s going to keep denying that it ever happened,” Giuffre said. “But he knows the truth, and I know the truth.”
Giuffre’s televised interview came as part of an hourlong special on “Dateline,” where she and five other women — Jennifer Araoz, Chauntae Davies, Anouska de Georgiou, Marijke Chartouni, and Rachel Benavidez — who say they were sexually abused or assaulted by Jeffrey Epstein share their stories in the aftermath of the convicted sex offender’s death this past August.
“They failed us before. Don’t fail us again,” Giuffre said. “That’s all we’re asking. Take this serious. We matter.”
