Prince Albert of Monaco is unbothered about any financial allegations lodged at him by the former palace accountant. He’s letting all of the claims roll off his back even though they don’t make him look very good.

Albert spoke to Paris Match in honor of his 66th birthday where he addressed the allegations made by his former money manager, Claude Palmero. One of the most serious claims included hiring undocumented workers as nannies for their nine-year-old twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, and they reportedly received unusually low salaries. Palermo wasn’t any ordinary accountant either, he was with Prince Albert for over two decades.

“Update on the hiring of nannies…We are completely illegal (even their tourist visa expired on January 7),” Palermo wrote in his “secret notebooks” in 2014 that were obtained by Le Monde. “They are not only in an illegal situation, but one entered with a false passport.” While these appear to be serious charges, Prince Albert’s response shows that he’s not sweating it one bit.

Thankfully, my whole family is there for me, showering me with their affection, both my immediate family and the extended family of Monegasque,” Albert said about his birthday week and the support of his family to Paris Match. “She [Charlene] was also very upset for me, and saddened by certain things that came out in the media. We supported each other. She has resumed many of her activities, more public engagements, to everyone’s delight.” Albert deftly swerved the conversation in another direction — let’s just say that he had no interest in addressing Palermo’s assertions.

Palmero also revealed that a “secret French bank account” exists to pay money to his former mistresses and the children he shares with them. Nicole Coste’s son Alexandre Grimaldi-Coste, 20, and Tamara Rotolo’s daughter, Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, 31, receive a yearly allowance of over $434,000. But Albert doesn’t care at all if anyone knows his alleged business, he instead spun how “proud and happy” he is to serve the state of Monaco — and no one, except for his ex-accountant — is calling him out for his alleged financial improprieties.
