HBO’s Succession won Outstanding Drama Series at the 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which were handed out tonight in Los Angeles. It was the second trophy in the marquee category for the series, which also won in 2020.

Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso won its second straight Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, and HBO’s The White Lotus took Limited or Anthology Series.

Squid Game‘s Lee Jung-jae scored his first Emmy, for Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Euphoria’s Zendaya, Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis and Hacks‘ Jean Smart all won their second consecutive lead acting Emmys tonight — Zendaya for drama and the others for comedy.

After the two-ceremony Creative Arts Emmys last weekend, and including the juried winners announced in August, there was a logjam at the top of the winners list, with five shows tied with five each. But HBO’s The White Lotus wound up as the big winner among programs with 10 Emmys after five tonight. They included two for writer-director Mike White, who was the evening’s sole individual double winner.

HBO’s Euphoria and Netflix’s Squid Game finished next with six trophies each, and two other shows have five trophies each: CBS’ Adele: One Night Only and Disney+’s The Beatles: Get Back. Neither was nominated for a Primetime Emmy.

Meanwhile, the combined HBO/HBO Max got 13 tonight to lead the network/platform race with 38 Emmys to archrival Netflix’s 26. Hulu is the next-closest competitor with eight wins overall (two tonight), followed by Apple TV+ (four) and NBC (one) with seven apiece. Prime Video (one) and Disney+ (none tonight) took six each overall.

The White Lotus was the only five-time winner tonight — for Limited Series, Murray Bartlett and Jennifer Coolidge. Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso took four tonight and overall (also winning for Brett Goldstein and MJ Delaney), and Succession bagged three (for Drama Series, Matthew Macfayden and Jesse Armstrong). ABC’s Abbott Elementary (Quinta Brunson and Sheryl Lee Ralph) and Netflix’s Squid Game (Lee Jung-jae, Hwang Dong-hyuk) were the only other multiple winners tonight.

Other trophy takers included Dopesick (Michael Keaton), Ozark (Julia Garner) Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel (Jerrod Carmichael), Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls and Saturday Night Live.

HBO’s drama series Succession came into the Emmys with a leading 25 nominations, followed by The White Lotus and Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso with 20 apiece.
