Music publishing company Primary Wave has acquired a partnership in Scott Weiland’s catalog, including the late singer’s work in Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, and his solo material.

The deal is being termed a partnership with Weiland’s estate, as opposed to a full acquisition. According to a press release, “Terms of the deal will see the publishing giant partner with Weiland’s estate on the iconic singer and songwriter’s legendary catalog.”

Brian Harris Frank of Shelter Music Group and Dana Dufine of DBD Squared Entertainment, who jointly manage Weiland’s estate, stated: “We believe that Primary Wave are the perfect partners to secure Scott’s legacy as one of the great frontmen in rock history. We look forward to working with Larry, Natalia, Adam, and their teams and believe that their ability to connect artists with culture will ensure that Scott’s impact will be felt for generations.”

Larry Mestel, CEO & Founder of Primary Wave Music, added, “There are few rock artists that had the impact that Scott Weiland did on music. We are honored to partner with Scott’s family on such a legendary catalog of music and career. Scott’s influence on music is unparalleled and he remains one of the most influential musicians in rock music. We are extremely grateful the estate has chosen to partner with us to continue to grow his incredible legacy.”

Just a few weeks ago, Scott’s musician son Noah opened up about his dad’s finances, telling Rolling Stone, “My dad was millions in debt when he died. My mom has always worked a normal job. And truthfully, even if my dad’s estate ever does get out of debt, I don’t even want that money. I want to make a career out of myself as much as possible.”

It appears that this Primary Wave deal will go a long way to resolving the family’s financial burden. While no monetary amount was disclosed, previous Primary Wave deals with other artists have been in the tens of millions of dollars.

As part of the deal, “Primary Wave will now share in name, image and likeness rights with the estate and will provide access to the company’s marketing team and publishing infrastructure, working closely on new marketing, branding, digital, and synch opportunities, as well as film & television projects.”

Scott Weiland died at the age of 48 on December 3rd, 2015, when he was found unresponsive on his tour bus in Bloomington, Minnesota. A medical examiner’s report determined that the singer’s death was the result of an accidental overdose of cocaine, alcohol, and methylenedioxyamphetamine.
