Pride festivals, lobster rolls, Star Wars: Here's what you should do this week on Cape Cod

This week's best bets might just blow you out of the ballpark.

Hyannis Harbor Hawk players are trading in their cleats for a pair of socks to jump around with guests at the FunBox outside Cape Cod Mall.

In a separate celebration, Hyannis is celebrating the LGBTQ+ community with the Cape Cod Pride Festival.

Lobster fans can have a heaping helping of lobster at Saint Barnabas’s Episcopal Church's annual fundraiser in Falmouth.

Elsewhere in this week's CapeWeek and at https://www.capecodtimes.com/, peruse our pitches for date night ideas, check out where you can see "Oppenheimer" in its original 33-mm film format, and stay up-to-date on the latest in theater life on the peninsula all summer long.

Here are nine more things to do on Cape Cod this week.

Author Andre Dubus III, whose past lends authentic voice to his working-class characters, visits Sandwich.

André Dubus III will talk about his new novel “Such Kindness,”  from 6:30–7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Titcomb’s Bookshop, 432 Route 6A in East Sandwich.

Best known as author of “The House of Sand and Fog,” Dubus — rhymes with profuse — will read from “Such Kindness,” talk about what inspired the book, answer questions, and sign books afterward. This is a free, in-person event, but registration is required and space is limited. Registration can be completed on titcombsbookshop.com or by calling the store at 508-888-2331.

Author Andre Dubus III will speak about his new book "Such Kindness," at Titcomb's Bookshop in Sandwich.

“Such Kindness” is the story of Tom Lowe, derailed from a comfy life by a moment’s exhausted inattention: he fell while shingling a roof, and his world changed. This book is about how we react when we must reinvent our entire life.

Dubus has a gift for making any character real and empathetic, perhaps using his own background. He grew up poor and fierce in Haverhill mill towns, with a hard-working, seldom-seen single mom plus three siblings. Deciding to write at age 23, Dubus took a wide variety of jobs to save mornings for writing, widening his lens while working as an actor, private investigator, corrections counselor, bounty hunter, carpenter, and general contractor. Dubus writes five or six days a week in his chosen 5- by 11-foot windowless basement retreat to focus. He lives on Boston’s North Shore with his wife, Fontaine, and three children.

The Harbor Hawks are trading in the ballpark for a bounce park.

The FunBox will be sponsoring an afternoon of community fun. Harbor Hawks players will be available to meet guests, have fun with kids in the bounce house, play cornhole and sign autographs from 2-4 p.m. July 27. Guests will have the chance to take a throw at the “splash tower” ― can you make the target and soak a Harbor Hawks player?

Activities with the players are free of charge, but if you want to jump along in the park, you’ll have to pay for admission. Adults can join in and jump alongside their children.

Test out the Chill Zone, Magic Mountain, Ninja Wall and much more. The FunBox is located behind the Cape Cod Mall, 769 Iyannough Road, Hyannis. Tickets are $34 for a three-hour session. Children under two and adults over 64 are free. Socks must be worn inside the park. The Harbor Hawks have a game scheduled for July 26. If rain causes cancellation, the game will be rescheduled to July 27 and this event will be postponed.

65 years of love celebrated at Berta Walker Gallery in Provincetown

The Berta Walker Galley is featuring three longtime Cape artists:

Danielle Morales Mailer is a painter, sculptor and printmaker who lives in Connecticut. For most of her life, she has spent weekends in Provincetown or New York. Her exhibit, called “Dreaming in Color,” will have a series of indoor/outdoor animal sculptures and dancing women which were created from 1/4-inch steel with a myriad of colors.

Robert Henry is celebrating his 90th birthday through his exhibit which has some 50 mixed-media works that span more than 60 years. Henry's late wife Salina Trieff's exhibit will be adjacent to her husband's, honoring the love and creativity they shared with 65 years of marriage. Trieff’s exhibit will feature her compassionate, yet often funny goats, chickens, sheep, dogs, pigs and more. This exhibit is free of charge.

The exhibit will be open during gallery hours. Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, the gallery will open at 11 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Friday’s hours are 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. The gallery is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. The exhibit will run until Aug. 6 at Berta Walker Gallery, 208 Bradford St., Provincetown. For more information, go to https://www.bertawalkergallery.com/show/berta-walker-gallery-robert-henry-selina-trieff-and-danielle-mailer.
