“The pressure is immense,” says Barton during an exclusive one-on-one interview with Dr. Phil airing Monday. “I certainly – you know – hear certain noises and flashes and I always consider it’s probably paparazzi.” Barton says she has “a constant fear about that stuff.”

The former star of the TV teen-drama The O.C. has found herself embroiled in a number of scandals in recent times, including being involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility for two weeks in 2009, and another brief hospitalization in January 2017, for erratic behaviors she says she believes were caused by someone slipping her the date-rape drug, GHB. Then in March, the actress announced she had obtained restraining orders against two former boyfriends to prevent possible dissemination of an intimate video she claims was taken without her knowledge or consent.

“I think I’m cautious enough by now to not have these latest things happen to me because I am pretty private and cautious – but I suppose nothing is ever perfect,” says Barton.

When Dr. Phil asks the actress if she wants to know why she has been victimized in – and out – of the press, how does she respond?
