President Obama Addresses Russian Hacking Review on ‘The Daily Show’

On The Daily Show, Trevor Noah interviewed President Obama at the White House. Noah asked about Obama’s recent request for the U.S. intelligence community to review Russia’s attempt to influence the presidential election.

Obama reminded Noah that the investigation has been going on ever since the Democratic National Committee was hacked. He said, “We determined and announced in October that it was the consensus of all the intelligence agencies in law enforcement that organizations affiliated with Russian intelligence were responsible for the hacking of the DNC materials that were being leaked. So that was a month before the election. This was not a secret.”

The president wasn’t too concerned with the hacking of the emails. But leading up to the election, he said, there was concern about vote tampering, “which we did not see evidence of and were confident we could guard against.”

Obama told Noah that the reason he requested the review was to “gather all the threads of the investigations, the intelligence work that has been done over many months, so that the public and our elected representatives going forward can find ways to prevent this kind of interference from having an impact on the elections in the future.”

The Daily Show With Trevor Noah airs weeknights at 11 p.m. on Comedy Central.
