President George W. Bush Delivers Pizza to Federal Workers Amid Government Shutdown

George W. Bush is calling for an end to the government shutdown.

On Friday, the former president, 72, and his wife, former first lady Laura Bush delivered pizza to federal workers, who are working without pay.

“@LauraWBush and I are grateful to our Secret Service personnel and the thousands of Federal employees who are working hard for our country without a paycheck,” Bush wrote.

“And we thank our fellow citizens who are supporting them. It’s time for leaders on both sides to put politics aside, come together, and end this shutdown,” he added.

In the photo, Bush can be seen carrying boxes of pizza to his secret service detail.

Approximately 800,000 government employees have been affected by the partial government shutdown, which began on Dec. 22.

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump, whose insistence for funding for a proposed southern border wall led to the government closing, said it could last for months — “even years.”

Congressional Democrats have urged him to reopen the government while they continue to debate border security, but they have dismissed his call for a wall as immoral and ineffective.

The billionaire businessman-turned-president, 72, claims he needs the wall to stem a “crisis” of drugs, violence and human trafficking.

Congressional Democrats, empowered by the midterms, have rejected that — calling a wall immoral and ineffective and offering to negotiate about border security once the government is reopened.

The shutdown has become the longest in American history, surpassing the previous record of 21 days in the ’90s, under President Bill Clinton and a Republican-led Congress, according to CNN.

It currently remains unclear how or when the shutdown will end.
