Prepare your taste buds. A Queens, New York-based pizzeria is expanding to Charlotte.

Get ready for a brand new pizzeria in Charlotte’s Oakhurst neighborhood/MoRA area. Singas Famous Pizza is planning to open a Charlotte location later this season.

The New York-based pizzeria will be opening next to The Frame, another new business which recently opened in Oakhurst. The first North Carolina Singas location opened in Morrisville a few years ago.

The pizzeria hand-tosses the dough before cooking each pizza. All pizzas are made to order so each customer gets a hot, freshly made pie.

The restaurant — which makes its dough fresh daily — has shipped pizzas to customers who have moved across or outside of the country. “We’ve shipped to England, to India, to all parts of the U.S.,” Operations director Enrique Almela told CharlotteFive. “But it’s just not the same.”

Luckily for us, we won’t have to rely on shipping — here’s a sneak peek of what your taste buds will experience:

Hand-made pizzas

  • Plain pizza — for those who like the classics: cheese and tomato sauce.

  • Singas Famous Pizza signature pizza — choices include meat lovers, vegetarian, Greek and sweet corn (topped with — you guessed it — corn).

  • Build your own pizza — spice up your pizza with up to 4 toppings including (but not limited to) green peppers, cauliflower, bacon and pineapple.

Sandwiches

  • Meatball parmesan — homemade meatballs, homemade marinara sauce, melted cheese, onions and green peppers.

  • Tuna melt — tuna, melted cheese, mayo, lettuce and tomato.

  • Hot pastrami — hot pastrami, onions, green peppers and melted cheese.

Burgers

  • The Singas Classic — ½ pound of black Angus beef, lettuce, tomato and pickles.

  • Two-Bean (veggie) Burger — two bean veggie patty, onion, garlic, lentils, chickpeas, mixed greens and a blend of cheese and spices topped with roasted garlic mayo.

  • Caliente Burger — avocado, mozzarella cheese and roasted jalepeño mayo.

Singas also has a full appetizer selection and a few salads on its menu as well.

About Singas Charlotte expansion

Charlotte is the next stop for the New-York based restaurant’s expansion across the South, Almela said.

When looking at areas, Almela saw the Oakhurst neighborhood was up and coming and said he predicts the MoRA area will get even better over the next few years. “I think it’s going to be a great fit for us, and I’m excited about it,” he said.

“I also saw that they had a lot of families, which is kind of the demographic that we look for,” he said, citing families with parents in their early 30s to mid 40s with younger kids and hectic work weeks.

The restaurant is planning to open in mid-late August.

About Singas

Singas Famous Pizza opened in 1967 by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Singas in Elmhurst, a neighborhood in Queens, New York. Current CEO and president Gregory Tsanis, along with his brother Chris, purchased the pizzeria in 1997.

The pizzeria began franchising in 2004, after it became overwhelmed with the numerous orders being placed. The pizzeria has three core guiding principles: fresh food, clean stores and exceptional customer service.
