Preparations being made for Patriot’s Day Fly-In at Hillsdale Municipal Airport

ADAMS TWP. — On Sept. 10, hundreds will gather to honor active military, veterans and other service members at the eighth annual Patriot’s Day Fly-In.

“We always arrange the fly-in around the weekend of Sept. 11,” said Ginger Moore, the airport manager at the Hillsdale Municipal Airport, where the fly-in will take place.

From 7 a.m.-2 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a hot pancake breakfast and airplane and helicopter rides.

The Exchange Club of Hillsdale County is organizing the breakfast, which will be served from 7-11 a.m.

“Breakfast is $7 for adults and $4 for kids,” Moore said. “Last year, they sold about 500 breakfasts, which was good considering it was raining.”

While the fly-in will be happening rain or shine this year, Moore hopes for better weather and an even higher turnout.

“We are hoping this year will be a really fun, sunny day,” she said.

In addition to the airplane and helicopter rides, which range from $30-$40 per person, there will also be many free activities.

“There will be a classic car cruise-in, and we are also looking forward to having a lot of different types of airplanes flying in for the day for people to come and look at,” Moore said.

There will be police, fire and other emergency vehicles on display. Food trucks will also be there throughout the day.

Hillsdale radio station WCSR will be broadcasting live from the fly-in and a DJ will also provide entertainment.

Moore said she is excited to celebrate Patriot’s Day and share with the community the many different types of aircraft she anticipates will fly in.

“It is free to come out,” Moore said. “Even if you don’t buy breakfast or take a ride, come out and enjoy the time with your family”
