BOYS BASKETBALL

FRANKFORT 60, PIONEER 49

Pioneer (1-6) played right with Frankfort (2-5) for three quarters before the Hot Dogs pulled away in the fourth quarter Monday in Royal Center.

The game was part of the Delphi Classic. Pioneer played Delphi at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Frankfort. Winamac defeated Delphi 48-38 Monday for coach Cameron Bennington's first win. The Warriors played Frankfort Tuesday night in Delphi.

Pioneer led Frankfort 17-15 after one quarter. The Hot Dogs took a 31-27 lead at halftime and 40-37 lead after three before outscoring the Panthers 20-12 in the fourth.

Drew McKaig led the Panthers with 21 points. Caleb Sweet scored 13, Brayden Erickson had eight and Rylahn Toloza added five.

"We played really well tonight, but we just didn't have quite enough to finish the game," Pioneer coach Darren McKaig said. "We were up in the fourth quarter, but then our guys just ran out of gas.

"Drew, Caleb and Brayden continued to lead our team all over the court. Drew hit five 3s and Caleb and Brayden both hit big 3s when we needed a bucket. The reality is that Drew has to work hard for every single basket with the other team focusing on him night in and night out. He's doing a good job of finding open guys and scoring when he can.

"Overall, our guys played hard and they continue to improve. We started the season without a whole lot of varsity experience. We will keep working to get better as the season progresses."
