Prep Central Newsletter: Tavion Gadson of Jenkins latest Savannah football player to commit
The recent wave of big-time college football recruiting in the Greater Savannah area took its latest step on Thursday as Tavion Gadson, the senior defensive lineman from Jenkins, announced his commitment to Florida State.
Gadson had 22 offers, including one from the defending national championship program at Georgia. His younger brother, Lorenzo Cowan, has offers including Duke and Kentucky, and there are two incoming freshmen at Jenkins in Caron Thompson and Carlton Hall, who already hold SEC offers before playing a down of high school football.

Some of them have already made commitments -- with Terry Simmons Jr. Calvary Day pledging to Duke, while his teammate, linebacker Troy Ford Jr., is set to attend UCF.
Benedictine has a duo of its own in athlete Za'Quan Bryan, who is headed North to Minnesota, and quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, who will end up being Gadson's teammate at Florida State.
The trend of Savannah players reaching the big time will continue with players like Calvary Blue Chip quarterback Jake Merklinger and his junior teammate, Michael Smith, one of the top tight ends in the nation, on the docket, but with plenty of time to make their choices.
