Premalu Ending Explained: How Does Malayalam Rom-Com End?

The latest Malayalam film, Premalu, has won the audience’s hearts. The romantic comedy was released on February 9, 2024, in Malayalam, and recently, its Telugu dubbed version hit theaters. Starring Naslen K Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju, the movie has reached new milestones daily. Girish A.D. has co-written and directed the film.

Premalu follows the story of a young man, Sachin Santhosh, who goes through several ups and downs in his love life. During his college years, Sachin falls in love with Anjali and confesses his love for her. But, when he realizes Anjali has feelings for one of their college mates, he is disheartened.

Why does Sachin moves to Hyderabad?

After graduation, Sachin decides to move to the UK but his visa application gets rejected. While living aimlessly for some time, Sachin meets his old friend Amal Davis, who suggests that he join a GATE course. Taking Amal’s advice, Sachin moves to Hyderabad with him and waits for his life to take another turn.

Premalu then focuses on the film’s lead, Reenu Roy, played by Mamitha Baiju. Reenu is a new joinee at an IT firm in Hyderabad and works with Aadhi. She is new to Hyderabad and moves in with her friend Karthika and her roommate Niharika. While Aadhi has a crush on Reenu, life has something different planned for her.

Finally, the leads of Premalu meet during a wedding. While Sachin and Amal are from the groom’s side, Reenu and Karthika are the bride’s guests. During the wedding, they become friends, and Sachin immediately falls for Reenu. They return to Hyderabad together, and Reenu finds herself comfortable with Sachin.

After falling deeply in love with Reenu, Sachin drops the GATE course and takes a job at a fast food chain to stay in Hyderabad. Because he is too shy, he fails to express his love for Reenu. Amal tries to help him and conveys his feelings through Karthika. But she turns him down and reveals how Reenu wants a more mature and settled partner. Despite not meeting the criteria for becoming Reenu’s partner, Sachin confesses his love for her, only to have his heart broken for the second time.

What happens to Sachin’s love life?

Reenu’s rejection is difficult for Sachin as he leaves Hyderabad and moves to Chennai. Unsure about her feelings, Reenu tries to convince Sachin to return to her, but he denies it. Their love story does not end there, as their paths cross again after a few months. Karthika invites them to her engagement party, where Reenu tries to talk to Sachin. However, Sachin tells her he is all set to leave for the UK the next day. He pretends Reenu does not mean anything to her, but the truth is something else.

Meanwhile, Aadhi degrades Sachin and Amal, but Reenu turns him down. The next day, when Sachin and Amal leave for the airport, Reenu joins them as she continues to convince Sachin. When Aadhi tries to attack Sachin with a bunch of goons, Reenu is his savior as she brings out her pepper spray.

Unlike other larger-than-life rom-coms, Premalu is decent, with a practical and down-to-earth theme. It is not a happily ever after with Sachin and Reenu but a more real-life approach to new-age love stories. In the end, when Reenu confesses her love for Sachin, the latter says yes. He then mentions that they have entered a long-distance relationship, and it would be interesting to see how it would go. He then bids farewell to Reenu.
