Pregnant Woman Arrested for Allegedly Abusing Her Twins Leaving One Baby in Critical Condition

A pregnant California woman has been arrested on suspicion of abusing her 13-month-old twins as one remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Sacil Lucero, a 26-year-old mother of four from Santa Ana, was arrested on Sunday for physically abusing her infant son and daughter, Santa Ana Police Department said in a statement.

Lucero, who is expecting her fifth child, was taken into custody after her daughter was taken to the University of California, Irvine Medical Center unresponsive and lifeless.

According to police, the pregnant mother claimed her child fell in the bathroom, but allegedly later admitted to intentionally causing the injuries to her daughter.

Lucero allegedly told authorities she began abusing her twins when she discovered she was pregnant.

The 13-month-old girl had multiple injuries, major trauma and signs of physical abuse, the police said. She remains listed in critical condition.

Detectives investigated the welfare of the victim’s twin brother and allege that he was also physically abused. He was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County where doctors discovered a skull fracture and multiple rib fractures.

Lucero’s two other children appeared unharmed and had no signs of abuse and left in the care of their father, according to the police department.

Lucero is being held in the Orange County Jail on $100,000 bail and has yet to enter a plea. She will face court Tuesday.
