Pregnant Jenna Bush Hager Supports Dylan Dreyer After She Reveals Secondary Infertility Struggle

It’s all love and support between Dylan Dreyer and Jenna Bush Hager.

After revealing on Monday’s episode of Today that she’s expecting her third child and first son, Bush Hager sat down with Dreyer for a candid conversation where Dreyer and husband Brian Fichera opened up about experiencing secondary infertility and a recent miscarriage.

“When we came in, I saw Dylan’s post and my heart sank for her because I think we all, at some point, have struggled with something,” Bush Hager, 37, told Dreyer and Meredith Vieira, the latter of whom was filling in for Hoda Kotb while she’s on maternity leave following the birth of her second daughter Hope Catherine last weekend.

“Even if you knew I was doing this story today, I would never ever want to have that be the reason why you didn’t announce this today. This is so amazing! My sadness does not take away from your joy,” said Dreyer.

“And I’m not even that sad right now,” she continued. “I’m just in a crappy situation, to be honest with you, and I’m hoping it all works out.”

Just hours after surprising her Today co-anchors by dropping the news that she and her husband Henry Hager are expecting their third child, the former first daughter revealed the sex of their baby on the way.

Asked why she decided to make the exciting announcement on Monday, the mom-to-be shared she just “couldn’t hold it one minute longer.”

“But we told our girls yesterday,” she shared, referring to the spouses’ two daughters Poppy Louise, 3½, and Margaret “Mila” Laura, 6.

“The Easter bunny brought them an egg with the big reveal,” Bush Hager added, before going on to reveal that the couple are expecting their first son.

Elsewhere during the show, weather correspondent Dreyer revealed she had suffered a miscarriage over the winter while pregnant with her and Fichera’s second child, following a struggle with trying to conceive for six months before being referred to a specialist.

Dreyer revealed that she got pregnant with her son Calvin Bradley, now 2, after the couple tried to conceive only one or two times. But with her second attempt, she was dealing with irregular menstrual cycles, and when she went to get things checked out, a blood test showed she had a low egg count — one similar to what doctors would expect from someone around age 45 as opposed to her age, 37.

Another potential issue was that her uterus “was two-thirds scarred shut” as a result of the emergency cesarean section she’d had with Calvin, which resulted in a surgery where the doctor removed the scar tissue. Then, she got pregnant immediately before the couple suffered the tragic loss.

She revealed that “a part of me feels a little mad at my body for not being able to do this naturally,” but she’s thankful for “amazing doctors” and her “great support system”: “God has a plan,” Dreyer said. “And I pray every night, ‘Just let me stay out of your way — you do what is best for us, and we’ll figure that out.’ ”

“Now we’re gonna start the IVF process and the shots and the scheduling and the blood work and everything that goes into it. We don’t really know what to expect right now,” Dreyer added. “You have to advocate for yourself. If there’s a doctor that you don’t feel like is listening to you, then you have to find the right doctor.”

She also shared in her conversation with Bush Hager that she and her husband were going “all in” next Friday on in vitro fertilization, when she will start estrogen patches ahead of the procedure.

“We want another baby and if that’s the way we’re gonna do it, that’s the way we’re gonna do it,” Dreyer said.
