‘The Predator’: First look at cast of Shane Black’s monster reboot

We may not know exactly what the titular extraterrestrial creature in filmmaker Shane Black’s franchise reboot The Predator is going to look like — but we do now have our first look at most of the film’s main (human) characters. Earlier Monday, Black posted on twitter a photograph of the Nice Guys and Iron Man 3 director with actors Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, and Keegan Michael-Key. The cast members looked dressed — and in some cases armed — for business, which is just as well given that Black also confirmed the film started shooting today.

“Partial cast… beautiful human beings, good people,” Black tweeted. “Also, killers. Cameras roll today. Follow me on Twitter for updates. Wish us luck.”

Black actually appeared in the original 1987 Predator, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers. The director is also cowriting the reboot with filmmaker Fred Dekker (Monster Squad) and last year revealed he wanted to give the film an “event feel.”

“Fox has been in the habit of making one of these Predator movies every couple years, and they put them out for a limited budget that kind of guaranteed return, but they’re not really something that’s an event,” he told this writer. “I want to try to get back to that. Because there was a freshness, I think, to the first one. … It was special then, and I want to get back to trying to reinvent it in the sort of way that it acquires that event feel that makes people want to treat it like a big movie.”
