Practice Daughter Ep 1 Recap & Spoilers: How Did Miao Yi Zhang & Chen Siyu’s Lives Get Interchanged?

The ongoing historical romance C-drama Practice Daughter released its first set of episodes on May 20, 2024. It features Miao Yi Zhang, Yang Haoming and Chen Siyu in the lead roles. The drama depicts a series of events after Mei Yu Shan (Miao Yi Zhang), the daughter of a minister and Xiao Dou Zi (Chen Si Yu), a renowned thief’s lives get tangled. The episode focuses on the aftermath of Yu Shan and Dong Zi’s interchanging identities.

The two girls arrive in front of a pavilion that looks just like the one where the strange occurrence took place. Dou Zi mentions that she stole the moon spirit pearl, which caused her to switch bodies with Yu Shan. They want to reverse the mistake, but unfortunately, even after trying multiple times, their attempts fail.

Flashbacks take viewers three months back to the day it all started. Dou Zi, along with a group of thieves, sneaks inside the palace. They want to steal artefacts from the Imperial Museum. Meanwhile, the Yu Shan’s palanquin arrives at the palace. Mai Yu Shan’s knowledge of a rare artefact impresses the crown prince, and he praises her. But he is shallow and only cares for external beauty and orderliness.

The rare sculpture holds a rare gemstone called the Moon Spirit Pearl, which once belonged to Shengdong. During the Jixi occupation, it fell into a stream and remained submerged for a long time. This stone possesses supernatural abilities, including the ability to change the passage of time.

Meanwhile, Dou Zi and her acquaintances slip inside the museum. They have their set on the gem, and they carefully obtain it. They almost get caught, but Dou Zi’s precocity saves them at the last moment. But the mishaps don’t end here as Dou Zi is mistaken for a worker by the imperial guards and is taken in front of the crown prince.

Yu Shan and the other daughters of imperial officials arrive in front of the prince to catch a glimpse of him and also to try to impress him. While others wear extravagant clothes and perform before the crown prince, Yu Shan does not care about it. She mentions that she has no feelings for the crown prince and, therefore, has no interest in wooing him. But she shares her thoughts with the prince on how to solve nationwide calamities. The prince asks her to join him in the discussion.

Dou Zi is taken to the prince’s court and given different chores. She acts clumsy and keeps messing up the errands, hoping that she will be free to leave. She starts to panic when she is instructed to serve liquor to the prince, as she does not want him to remember her face. The prince finds her behavior suspicious and starts asking her questions, which she fails to answer.

The liquor she served had also been fumbled with, and the prince fell unconscious. Fearing to get caught, Dou Zi made a run for it, but Yu Shan went after her. The two got knocked down, and the moon spirit pearl in Dou Zi’s pocket brought about a miracle.
