‘Power’ Spinoff ‘Ghost’ Ending With Season 4

The end is in sight for Power Book II: Ghost.

A day after unveiling plans for a prequel series tracing the Origins of Ghost characters Ghost and Tommy (Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora), Starz revealed that the second series in the Power franchise will come to a conclusion with its upcoming fourth season.

The final season will be split into two parts, with the first arriving Friday, June 7, followed by the second half starting Friday, Sept. 6. The show’s June debut is tied to the 10th anniversary of the debut of the flagship series in the Power franchise.

“This explosive season of Ghost is a fitting crescendo in a decade of an immensely popular franchise — fans will not be disappointed,” said Kathryn Busby, president of programming at Starz. “While this marks the conclusion of one chapter, our commitment to the Power universe endures with more compelling storytelling on the horizon.”

From executive producers Courtney Kemp and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the Power series launched with the flagship series in 2014 and concluded in 2020 after six seasons and more than 60 episodes. The franchise expanded to Book II: Ghost, Book III: Raising Kanan (which is now in production on season four) and the Sikora-led Book IV: Force (season three is in the works).

Previous efforts to develop Influence as the fourth spinoff were unsuccessful as Starz says additional news in the Power franchise will be forthcoming as the premium cable network prepares to split off from its current ownership, Lionsgate. The studio’s Lionsgate Television produces the Power franchise and previously housed creator Kemp with an overall deal. She remains credited as an exec producer but is not creatively involved with the franchise since departing Lionsgate TV for a rich pact with Netflix. Brett Mahoney (Empire) serves as showrunner on Ghost.

Michael Rainey Jr. stars in Ghost alongside Mary J. Blige, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Gianni Paolo, Woody McClain, Lovell Adams-Gray, LaToya Tonodeo, Alix Lapri, Larenz Tate, Caroline Chikezie, Lightskinkeisha and Michael Ealy. Star Rainey shared in an Instagram Live interview that he learned of the show’s cancellation from the press.

The Starz roster of scripted originals also includes 50 Cent’s BMF, which was recently renewed for its fourth season ahead of its third season bow; Outlander and its prequel spinoff; P-Valley and the upcoming Spartacus: House of Ashur, among others.
