Power in flowers: Lewis Miller shares design secrets with church's floral guild

The New York-based author and floral designer Lewis Miller spoke to the Flower Guild of the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea on Thursday, sharing insights into his guerilla-style street art installations made with flowers.

Miller, who lives in West Palm Beach, has published a book, "Flower Flash," about his efforts to bring moments of beauty into city landscapes. He signed copies of the book before giving a demonstration of his techniques.

A finished arrangement created by Lewis Miller during his demonstration is entered into a raffle at Bethesda-by-the-Sea on Thursday.

The build held a raffle that day for one arrangement Miller finished during his presentation, which guild member Cindy Mullin helped to arrange. That arrangement included several pieces of discarded vegetation that Miller found along roadsides in Palm Beach County.

"I call it Florida roadkill," he quipped. "I'd pay $25 for this in New York."
