Getting shot is just the beginning of Monet’s problems on "Power Book II: Ghost."

Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige) is not out of the woods when Power Book II: Ghost returns.

Last we saw Monet she was in the hospital after being shot and when the final season begins, she’s fighting for her life. Before the war Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) started at the end of last season kicks off in earnest, Monet will have to make it out of the hospital. From the latest trailer, we know that she survives, but her stint in the hospital, like the chaos that will follow, is far from simple.

Monet will have two ghostly visitors in the hospital: her old flame Dante "Mecca" Spears (Daniel Sunjata) and ex-husband Lorenzo Tejada Sr. (Berto Colon). “When fighting for her life, she’s visited by her two lovers. She murdered both of them, so they visit her and they’re not saying nice things,” Mary J. Blige tells EW.

As for how the shooting will impact Monet moving forward, Blige says, “It humbles her a little bit." And when it comes to her children, Blige hints that she might adjust her typical tough love approach — but that's not to say that things are going to be easy. Let's not forget that Monet's children tried to killer in last season's finale.

Despite their anger, Monet is committed to protecting her children. “[Monet] wants to make them into the kind of person she is because she doesn’t want them to be hurt on the street,” Blige explains. The issue is that her children, at least Diana (LaToya Tonodeo) and Dru Tejada (Lovell Adams-Gray), want to be regular kids. Ironically, their fight for independence has led them down their mother’s path. “They end up trying to save themselves and live their own life and end up turning into her anyway,” Blige says.

What’s ahead in the final season will be the ultimate test for the more humble Monet. Blige teases that her character is aware of some of her children’s recent actions, but she certainly doesn’t know that her kids set her up to be murdered. “The dynamic goes crazy,” Blige teases, “It just goes completely, terribly wrong,”

Elsewhere, Golden Brooks is entering the Power universe as Monet’s cousin Janet Stewart and will provide another window into Monet's thinking. “[She’s] the church family member that judges them for being what they are, but she’s the one that knows Monet very well,” Blige teases about Janet.

But Janet is not the only new face as Michael Ealy joins the series as Detective Don Carter. So far, all we know is that he has Tariq in his sights, and according to Blige, is a dirty cop who only serves to complicate things.

With only one season left to wrap up these stories, Blige says to expect a "crazy" final run. Sounds like this chapter is going out with a bang. Likely more than one.

The first part of Power Book II: Ghost's final season premieres Friday, June 7, on Starz.
