“Something calls to me. Can’t you hear it? Something stirs here. Can’t you see it?” That line, uttered by the late actor Ray Stevenson in “Ahsoka” episode six, set the minds of “Star Wars” fans racing. Viewers have long been clued in to the fact that Stevenson’s character Baylan Skoll has his own secret agenda that doesn’t involve his tenuous allies Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) or Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). Now that Baylan has reached Peridia, a mysterious planet in a distant galaxy, his secret plan might just be the biggest bombshell that the Disney+ series will drop on fans.

Baylan’s ambitions came into sharper focus this episode during a short conversation between the Force-user and his apprentice Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno). After she asks her master if he misses the fallen Jedi order, he scoffs. “I miss the idea of it, but not the truth, the weakness,” he replies, “There was no future there.” Shin doesn’t see much future on Peridia either, noting that the trio of Nightsister witches appear all too eager to get out of dodge. “Perhaps they fear a power greater than their own,” suggests Baylan. Below are the top three possibilities for the secret power that this former Jedi is seeking.

Abeloth
“Ahsoka” creator and overall “Star Wars” guru Dave Filoni loves to incorporate elements from the “Legends” novels and make them canon. Just look at the major storyline surrounding Thrawn. Abeloth is another popular figure introduced in the non-canon “Fate of the Jedi” books. Abeloth began her life as the mortal “mother” to the trio of Mortis gods known as the Father, the Son, and the Daughter. These gods were heavily featured in the animated series “The Clone Wars.”

Abeloth eventually grew obsessed with immortality, not wanting to die while her family of gods lived on forever. So, she drank from a primordial source of dark side energy known as the Font of Power. This action completely corrupted Abeloth, turning her into a grotesque immortal being drenched in the dark side of the force. Her sole desire is to consume the life force of all living things on the planet. This is exactly the type of being that even the powerful Nightsisters would fear. In the “Legends” stories, Abeloth was eventually imprisoned by the Mortis gods on an unnamed planet. Perhaps Filoni has decided that said planet is Peridia.

Yoda’s Species
Yoda is one of the most beloved figures in “Star Wars,” but after all this time, no one knows what his species is called nor what planet he hails from. The longstanding curiosity surrounding Yoda’s lineage was renewed with “The Mandalorian” and the introduction of Grogu (aka Baby Yoda). Grogu is just the third Yoda-type alien introduced in the “Star Wars” canon (the second being the female Yaddle, briefly seen on the Jedi Council in “The Phantom Menace”). Yet after three seasons of “The Mandalorian” fans are still no closer to an answer on his origin.

Perhaps their home world is the ancient planet Peridia. We do know that all three characters in this species are among the most Force-sensitive creatures ever depicted in “Star Wars,” so a group of Yodas would be quite the find. Just as the Empire hoped to use Grogu’s DNA for nefarious purposes, Baylan could be searching for this alien race in order to tap into parts of the Force that former Jedi and Sith could only dream of.

The World Between Worlds
We have already been transported into the World Between Worlds once this season when Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) worked through unresolved trauma with former master Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen). Access to this realm of knowledge has precise requirements, such as a near death experience, but it’s possible that the Nightsisters built a temple on Peridia which allows easier entry to this mystical world. Baylan could plan to use this realm for the purpose of rewriting history.

Skoll and Hati (the surnames of the master and apprentice) are also the names of two wolf gods from Norse mythology who perpetually chase the sun and moon, respectively, in a perpetual cycle around the globe. If these wolves finally catch up to and devour those celestial bodies, they will cause Ragnarok, aka the apocalypse. It’s easy to see Baylan and Shin’s thematic similarities to these figures when taking into account Baylan’s desire to break the “cycle” of the Jedi and Sith, and of rising and falling empires. The light side vs. dark side structure of the galaxy is a failed experiment in Baylan’s eyes, and he might hope to use the World Between Worlds to peer back through time and “fix” history. Of course, Dave Filoni has long assured fans that this realm cannot be used for time travel. But perhaps it contains the power to affect the fate of the galaxy in ways we do not yet know.
