Post Office Named After Jimi Hendrix

In Hendrix’s hometown of Renton, Washington

A post office in Jimi Hendrix’s hometown of Renton, Washington has been renamed the “James Marshall ‘Jimi’ Hendrix Post Office Building” in the late musician’s honor, The Seattle Times reports. The building is located at 4301 Northeast 4th Street in Renton—the same street Hendrix grew up on. Hendrix is buried only a few blocks away at Greenwood Memorial Park.

Washington State Representative Adam Smith proposed the rechristening back in July of 2018. The bill was intended to celebrate the musical legacy of Seattle and its surrounding cities. It received unanimous support from each of Washington’s eight representatives in Congress, and was passed by the House Committee last week.
