Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” has become the first Double Diamond-certified single by the RIAA.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America, the single snagged the milestone on Thursday (Feb. 8). The track was certified 20x Platinum and currently holds the most certifications in the organization’s history.

With the feat, Malone and Lee have now entered a very exclusive club alone. RIAA Chairman & CEO Mitch Glazier spoke about Malone and Lee’s latest accomplishment. Glazier spoke about their historic feat and congratulated them on the endeavor.

“Post Malone and Swae Lee have officially raised the bar on what creative partnerships and infectious collaborations have the power to accomplish,” Glazier said. “‘Sunflower’ has now been streamed or downloaded more than 20 million times in the U.S. alone, and they’ve earned the custom hardware to prove it. Congratulations Post, Swae Lee and Mercury/Republic Records for making history with the very first 2x Diamond single!”

In early 2024, Post officially became the most RIAA-certified Diamond artist in history. The Syracuse native has managed to snag 8 Diamond cuts throughout his young career. These singles include, “Congratulations (feat. Quavo),” “I Fall Apart,” “rockstar (feat. 21 Savage),” “Psycho (feat. Ty Dolla $ign),” “Better Now,” “White Iverson,” and “Circles.”

“Sunflower” was released as the first single for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Soundtrack from & Inspired by the Motion Picture). It dropped in October 2018 and quickly shot up the charts, landing at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100. It also became the No. 1 song on Billboard’s Rhythmic and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. In 2022, the song became the highest-charting single in RIAA history. Post Malone talked to TMZ about his track’s success, stating that Swae Lee did the “heavy lifting.”

“I want to say thank you to Swae Lee. Swae Lee did a lot of the writing and the heavy lifting on that song, and he’s one of the most talented artists and most beautiful men in the world. I’m so honored to be able to have done a song with him and we got some more on the way —some special stuff.”
