Popular Phoenix craft brewer closes taproom 'to focus elsewhere'

Simple Machine brewery closed its Glendale taproom after 11 months.

The owners made the announcement in an Instagram post dated on March 2. “After copious consideration and conversations with our partners, peers, friends and families, we’ve made the decision to cease our operations at the Glendale taproom."

Simple Machine Brewing Co. opened in November 2019 in north Phoenix by Marshall Norris and Matt Wright, inspiring a handful of other breweries to join them in the Deer Valley area. Norris then partnered with Frank Trotti to open a taproom in the historic downtown Glendale in April 2023.

The Glendale location was formerly home to another bar, Room 11, which the duo decided not to tear down. Instead, they opted for major renovations.

The Instagram post continued: "Over the holidays, we were presented with a new opportunity that, after heavy consideration, is going to be our primary focus moving forward. The building is beautiful and the happenings in downtown Glendale are an incredible opportunity, but sadly, we need to focus elsewhere."

Patrons can still use Mug Club memberships and redeem gift cards at the Deer Valley location of Simple Machine.

The Instagram post ended with: "We’d like to thank everyone, from the bottom of our hearts, who helped us open and who visited the taproom for their support. Hopefully, we’ll see you all soon at our Deer Valley brewery/taproom. ... Stay tuned for an exciting 2024/2025."
