Popular Latin TV Host Responds to Body Shamers With Surprising Promise

Adamari Lopez is no stranger to being body-shamed. This time, after facing harsh commentary for a post that led to rumors of pregnancy, she made a bold move.

On live television, the morning-show co-host made a promise to her fans to lose weight. This new fitness challenge was announced on her a.m. program, Telemundo’s Un Nuevo Dia. Lopez committed to going to the gym on a daily basis, which the host admitted to not having done since she gave birth to her daughter Alaïa almost three years ago. “I have done other types of exercises but no personal training, and I have not done any cardio, et cetera,” said Lopez, 46.

“I’m aware that I would like to lose weight for my health, but not to satisfy the people who think I should lose weight,” she added.

“The commitment is to myself because I know that one must be healthy so I dedicated myself,” explained the former telenovela star, who also revealed that her co-host Rashel Diaz will be joining her throughout the weight-loss journey.

Lopez clarified that her while her goal is to drop pounds and be healthy, she also wants to “generate muscle mass.”

Before starting this new regimen, the 5-foot-2 actress decided to further open herself up to viewers and let herself be weighed during Monday’s airing. Lopez stood at 142 lbs.

Last summer, the television host spoke out after being body shamed for sharing a photo of herself in a swimsuit. “After facing cancer, I have gone through several physical changes,” she told Today. “My body has changed. I went from being thin (size 0-2) to size 6, and my weight has been up and down ever since. During my pregnancy, I gained more weight and I haven’t committed myself to losing it yet.”
