Popular Japanese discount store is expanding in Arizona. Everything to know

The popular Japanese discount store Daiso opened its first Arizona store in Chandler in March 2023 and it hasn't stopped expanding here.

A second Daiso store opened in Mesa in September 2023, followed by locations in Phoenix and Glendale.

Now Daiso is expanding beyond metro Phoenix.

The store is known for selling unique Japanese-inspired items including snacks, things for the home, gifts, beauty supplies, crafting supplies and more at low prices.

Here’s what to know about the newest Daiso store coming to Arizona, including where and when it could open.

Does Arizona have a Daiso?

Arizona has four Daiso stores so far, with a new one expected to open this summer. Here are the Daiso stores open in Arizona:

  • Arcadia Fiesta, 3141 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix.

  • Mesa Main Marketplace, 1911 W. Main St., Mesa.

  • Sunburst Plaza, 4377 W. Bell Road, Glendale.

  • Chandler Ranch Plaza, 1860 W. Chandler Blvd., Chandler.

Daiso Tucson opening date

The newest Arizona Daiso store will be in Tucson, according to tucsonfoodie.com. It will be at the Ventana Village Shopping Center, 6884 E. Sunrise Drive. No opening date has been announced, according to tucsonfoodie.com, but the store may open by the end of this summer.

What does Daiso mean in Japanese?

According to daiso50th.com the translation from Japanese to English is "dai," meaning "big," and "so," meaning "to create."

Daiso has been making waves for 50 years, opening with the concept of selling items at one price of 100 yen.

On the Daiso website, part of the mission statement reads: "The One Price makes it possible to buy more. The One Price allows you to give it a try. The One Price encourages casual purchases that lead to changes in everyday life. The One Price has infinite power to enrich our lives."

What is Daiso good for?

Much like the beloved American dollar stores, Daiso is where you'll find thousands of products on the cheap. If you're looking for stocking stuffers, goodie bag fillers, party favors, unique snacks or crafts for all ages, Daiso has you covered without breaking the bank.

Is everything in Daiso a dollar?

Most items at Daiso cost $1.50, with some items costing a dollar or so more.
