Six Forks Burger Company, a family-owned restaurant serving burgers and hot dogs since 2020, has closed its brick-and-mortar location.

The casual burger joint initially opened in Feb. 2020 in Shelby Park. About a year later, Six Forks moved to a bigger building on Ash Street in Schnitzelburg.

Now, it’s time for a new chapter for Six Forks, as owner Troy King explained in a video posted Tuesday on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

King, who named Six Forks in honor of the six kids he shares with his wife, Selena, opened the informal, selfie-style video with these words for the page’s 6,700 followers: “You might be asking me why I’m smiling.”

“I’m smiling because I’m happy to announce that Selena and I have decided to make today the last day of service for Six Forks,” King stated. “It’s a very, very, very happy, joyous thing for us. It may not be for our customers or some of our employees.”

King said the decision came after weeks of discussions with his wife and key employees.

“This restaurant just doesn’t fit our lifestyle,” he said. “I equate it to an ex-wife that pays me alimony and it’s good money.”

The money, though, “is no longer worth the headache,” King said.

Messages from the Courier Journal to Six Forks were not returned as of Wednesday afternoon.

King sprinkled in some good news for fans of Six Forks. The building at 1039 Ash St. will turn into the headquarters for his company, Velvet Couch Hospitality Group, which also operates Fry Daddy’s. King, who is also the president of the Louisville Food Truck Association, mentioned Six Forks items will still be found on the menu of his food trucks and he will continue catering.

He closed the video by saying how “relieved” he felt to announce the closure.

“We're not going anywhere,” he added. “We have a lot of things in the hopper.”
