The annual Boar’s Head & Yule Log Festival presented by The Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea is on tap for this weekend.

The event, which the church describes as a "beloved re-creation of an ancient drama celebrating Epiphany," will feature pipes and drums, Beefeaters, sprites, shepherds, the Three Kings and their pages, Mary and Joseph, flag bearers, jesters, the Herald, King Wenceslas and his page, a brass quintet, the mighty Austin organ, and the Bethesda Choir.

The festival is a recreation of a medieval London Lord Mayor’s banquet. Volunteer actors — many of whom are parishioners at Bethesda-by-the-Sea — portray the characters. It ends with the retelling of the Nativity story, the birth of Jesus and the arrival of the Three Kings.

The event’s history dates back to a festival at Queen’s College in Oxford, England, in 1340.

The event will be held three times this weekend: 3:30 p.m. Saturday and at 2 and 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

All tickets are $25.

The church is at 141 S. County Road, just south of The Breakers.
