The Pope’s Exorcist 2 is officially happening.

On X, per Empire Magazine, The Pope’s Exorcist producer Jeff Katz announced that a sequel was officially moving forward. “Amorth Nation — I just got the call. IT’S OFFICIALLY HAPPENING!!! ‘È un seguito, amici miei.’ [It’s a sequel, my friends.] Thank you to the amazing #ThePopesExorcist fans. You made this happen. Gas up your Lambretta – and get ready to ride,” Katz wrote.

In April 2023, Bloody Disgusting reported that Screen Gems was beginning to develop a sequel to 2023’s The Pope’s Exorcist. According to Bloody Disgusting, Russell Crowe is expected to reprise his role as Father Gabriele Amorth in the sequel, though there’s been little news about the project since then up until now.

In the meantime, Crowe is now starring in another exorcism movie, The Exorcism, which is directed by Joshua John Miller and also stars Sam Worthington, Ryan Simpkins, and David Hyde Pierce. The Exorcism releases in United States theaters on June 7, 2024.

The horror movie was released in United States theaters in April 2023. It made approximately $77 million at the global box office off an estimated budget of $18 million.

The Pope’s Exorcist is currently streaming on Netflix.
