Pop star Fletcher reveals Lyme disease diagnosis, postpones tour through 2024

Pop singer Fletcher announced Wednesday she was postponing her upcoming tour dates after revealing she had been diagnosed with Lyme disease.

In an Instagram post, along with a photo of her receiving IV medication, the “Undrunk” singer said she was diagnosed recently and is undergoing treatment.

“I started to become increasingly ill over the last couple years and just kept pushing even though I knew there was something deeper going on,” Fletcher, 29, wrote. “For the last few months, I’ve been receiving treatments, following doctor’s orders and doing my best to learn more about this invisible illness.”

“Lyme has affected me in a variety of ways and while it has not only taken a tremendous toll on my physical body, it has also caused concern for my voices as well,” she continued. “This has worn on my soul in a way that’s hard to even put words to as singing is the thing I love most in this world and my voice is my vessel for expression.”

“Unfortunately, touring and singing every night just isn’t something my body is capable of in this moment and I want to show up for you all 100%,” she added.

As a result, upcoming stops in the U.K., Europe, Australia and New Zealand were postponed until 2024 and a show in Mexico City was canceled. However, Fletcher plans to perform scheduled shows in Atlanta this weekend and Washington, D.C., at the end of the month.

The health news comes just one day after MTV’s annual Video Music Awards, where Fletcher’s “Becky’s So Hot” was nominated for Best Push Performance, a category that highlights emerging artists.

Lyme disease, which is transmitted to humans through the bite of a tick, can cause flu-like symptoms, rashes and swollen lymph nodes. It can lead to facial palsy, arthritis, heart palpitations, nerve pain and other complications, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
