On the latest show, the Pop Shop team goes on location — to Charlie Puth’s house! We sat down with the singer/songwriter in his home studio in Los Angeles, where he walked us through some of the recording process of his new single “Attention.” In the podcast, Puth plays some of the 250-plus individual tracks that make up the song — a tune he created from the ground up on his own. (On the June 10-dated Billboard Hot 100 chart, “Attention” became Puth’s fifth top 40-charting hit, rising 45-35.)

Puth tells Billboard that “Attention” was inspired by a post he read on Instagram. “I was reading someone’s Instagram,” he says, “and they had poured their heart out about this girl. And the only thing I could think about was — I think they were trying to convey some sort of message like ‘I’m moved on and I’m a guy and I’m strong.’ But what I got from that was, ‘Wow, this girl completely played you and this girl just wanted attention.’ And I just started singing, ‘You just want attention…’”
On the show, Puth also talks a little bit about his forthcoming second full-length album, working with his friend Liam Payne on his debut album, and how he’s looking forward to heading out on the road on tour with Shawn Mendes this summer.
