Pop Shop Podcast: Billboard Music Awards Recap With Vanessa Hudgens & Julia Michaels; Plus Harry Styles’ No. 1 Debut

Welcome to the new episode of the Billboard.com Pop Shop Podcast, Billboard’s weekly audio breakdown of the Billboard charts, hottest music news and year’s biggest musical events. On the latest show, we recap the 2017 Billboard Music Awards and welcome two special guests: the show’s co-host Vanessa Hudgens and first-time performer Julia Michaels! We spoke with the ladies (separately) on the day before the May 21 show inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where the big show went down.

Hudgens chatted a bit about her recent new single, “Reminding Me” with Shawn Hook, and she says to “stay tuned” regarding further new music from her. (She also spazzes about two of her favorite divas who happened to be on the show this year: Cher and Celine Dion.) As for Michaels, the singer/songwriter talks about how “surreal” it is that her single “Issues” has connected with people in such a major way and how her next single is coming “very soon.” Plus, Michaels talks about co-writing Selena Gomez’s new single “Bad Liar” and how elated she was to procure a sample of Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” on the track.

In addition to our guest interviews, we discuss some of our personal highlights of the Billboard Music Awards (Cher! Celine! BTS! Nicki Minaj!) and dive into chart news about Harry Styles’ No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 chart and Miley Cyrus’ latest top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Malibu.”
