‘Nightcap’ Renewed For Season 2 By Pop Ahead Of Series Premiere

Pop said today it has ordered a 10-episode second season of its original scripted comedy Nightcap ahead of its series premiere next month. Ali Wentworth stars as an overworked talent booker on a fictitious late-night talk show, and each episode features celebrity guests and the antics that go on behind the scenes of a late-night set.

The comedy premieres November 16 with back-to-back episodes on the cable net, which is a joint venture of CBS Corp and Lionsgate. The first two half-hours feature guests Sarah Jessica Parker, Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos, Andy Cohen, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jim Norton and Nate Berkus.

Said Wentworth: “I had to dig deep to find the character of a middle-aged, neurotic, slightly unglued woman — mostly because I’m seen as a 24-year-old award-winning sexual icon. But that’s acting!”

Said Justin Rosenblatt, Pop’s EVP Original Programming and Development, “Nightcap is a fresh spin on the screwball workplace comedy in an original series that is distinctive and broadly appealing.”

Nightcap is produced by Lionsgate Television, Dakota Pictures and Trout the Dog Productions. Wentworth, Tom Brunelle and Brad Wollack of Free 90 Media serve the exec producers alongside Troy Miller and Zero Point Zero Production’s Lydia Tenaglia, Chris Collins and Craig Shepherd.
