As a young man, The Polyphonic Spree’s Tim DeLaughter discovered Ennio Morricone’s score for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly — and everything changed. The instrumental “Forte (The Strong),” in particular, moved DeLaughter so completely that its profundities have stuck with him to this day.

On this episode of The Spark Parade, DeLaughter talks about why the piece struck such a chord with him, how it’s acted as entrance music for Polyphonic Spree concerts, and the emotional foundation it’s provided for his own writing.

“It’s magic is what it is. It’s profound,” he explains. “It’s never gotten old to me. It’s always brand new, it always hits me the same way.”
