Police Search Landfill For Missing L.A. Mom Who Vanished After Son’s Football Game

Authorities are scouring a landfill for clues — and human remains — related to the suspected murder of missing California mother Heidi Planck.

On Monday, detectives searched "a specific area” of Chiquita Canyon Landfill in Castaic, California — which is near Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles — in for human remains related to Planck’s disappearance, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Search efforts are expected to last between seven and 10 days, officials said.

Planck was last seen alive on Oct. 17 after leaving her son’s football game, according to law enforcement. She was reported missing after she didn’t pick her son up from school three days later.

Surveillance footage from the day she was last seen alive captured Planck departing her home with her dog. Her dog was found abandoned, wandering on the 28th floor of a secure downtown Los Angeles apartment building later that day.

On Nov. 4, Planck’s 2017 grey Range Rover was found in a nearby parking garage. Investigators later served a search warrant on the building’ management to obtain surveillance footage.

“Since that time, detectives have worked tirelessly to gather leads related to Planck’s disappearance,” the Los Angeles Police Department added in Monday’s statement.

No persons of interest have been identified by officials in Planck’s possible murder. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division is running the investigation into the missing mother’s disappearance.

The missing 39-year-old’s sudden disappearance shocked loved ones and friends who knew her.

“I just want to know where my friend is,” Danielle Nadolny told NBC News' “Dateline.” “We all need her home safe.”

A prayer vigil was held for Planck in downtown Los Angeles on Nov. 6.

"I just miss her, and I love her, and we're not going [to] stop looking until we find answers," one woman who spoke at the vigil said, KABC-TV reported.

"It's not like her," another person who attended the vigil said. "If nothing else, her son — she would never leave her son like this."

Jim Wayne, Planck’s ex-husband, who reported her missing, described her as a “devoted mother who would never, ever leave her son.”

“We have a 10-year-old boy at home that’s looking for his mom and we just need to find her," Wayne told NBC's "Dateline."

Wayne, who reported his former spouse missing, previously said Planck appeared unusually anxious at her son’s football game shortly before she vanished.

“She was a little bit antsy, yes," Wayne added. "I don’t know why. All I know is that was the last time I saw her or talked to her."

The Los Angeles Police Department declined to comment further on the ongoing search efforts on Tuesday afternoon when contacted by Oxygen.com.

Planck is described as a white female with blond hair and blue eyes. She’s approximately five feet and three inches tall. She was last seen driving a gray 2017 Range Rover with California tags U840X0.
