Florida State beat rival Florida 31-13 in 2016, but Seminoles kicker Ricky Aguayo didn’t have his best game.
Aguayo, then a true freshman, missed two of his three field goal attempts, both in the first half. Apparently some fellow FSU students weren’t too happy with his performance.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, police records show Aguayo told officers he was “jumped” in front of an FSU fraternity after the game. The fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi, was recently shut down after a pledge died. Aguayo said members of the fraternity punched him in the face.
Aguayo told TPD he was walking by the fraternity house at about 3 a.m. on Dec. 2 when people on the front porch began to yell at him about his performance in the game.
“He said they were giving him a hard time about missed field goals during the Florida game,” officers wrote in their report. “He said he was rushed by several of the members of the fraternity…and was punched in the face.”
Police noted blood on Aguayo’s face and shirt, which had been ripped, and swelling consistent with being punched.
Aguayo declined medical treatment and did not press charges, police said.
The incident involving Aguayo came to light in relation to a public records request seeking information on the fraternity since the death of Andrew Coffey on Nov. 3.
Since January 2015, TPD has responded to the fraternity house for several noise complaints stemming from large parties, a report of an ATM stolen from inside the two-story building and a report of a small fire.
Aguayo, the younger brother of former FSU and NFL kicker Roberto Aguayo, made 19-of-26 field goal attempts in 2016 and earned an All-ACC honorable mention. This year, Aguayo is 15-of-18 on field goals for the 5-6 Seminoles.
FSU can clinch bowl eligibility if it beats Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. The game was initially canceled because of Hurricane Irma, but was put back on the schedule earlier this month.
