Police Open Criminal Investigation After Protests at Tucker Carlson’s Home

Police in Washington D.C. have opened a criminal investigation into a belligerent protest outside Tucker Carlson’s home on Wednesday and vowed that anyone who participated in illegal activity would be brought to justice.

“We welcome those who come here to exercise their First Amendment rights in a safe and peaceful manner; however, we prohibit them from breaking the law,” said the Metropolitan Police Department in a statement to TheWrap.

“A group of protestors broke the law by defacing private property at a Northwest, DC residence,” it continued. “MPD takes these violations seriously, and we will work to hold those accountable for their unlawful actions. There is currently an open criminal investigation regarding this matter.”

On Wednesday evening, protesters descended on Carlson’s home. The Fox News host and his four children were not at home, but his wife, Susan Andrews, was and called 911 while hiding in the pantry.

In addition to cracking Carlson’s front door, the protesters warned (self-evidently) that they knew where Carlson lived.

“We are outside your home to protest your fascism and racism,” said an unnamed man off camera, before several began chanting in unison. “We know where you sleep at night.”

Carlson addressed the matter on Thursday calling into his own show, which was being co-hosted by “Fox & Friends” host Brian Kilmeade.

“This has a chilling effect on people’s ability to speak and to think freely. That’s the point, it’s totalitarian in its intent and we should fight it,” said Carlson. “Our public conversation has been hijacked by extremists like this.”

In a statement of their own, Fox News condemned the protest, calling it “reprehensible” and publicly urging all sides to tone down the rhetoric.

The incident that took place at Tucker’s home last night was reprehensible. The violent threats and intimidation tactics toward him and his family are completely unacceptable. We as a nation have become far too intolerant of different points of view. Recent events across our country clearly highlight the need for a more civil, respectful, and inclusive national conversation. Those of us in the media and in politics bear a special obligation to all Americans, to find common ground.
