Police investigate fatal crash in Gardner

GARDNER — Officials are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Thursday afternoon.

Two cars were involved in a head-on collision on Route 140 near Green Street around 2:30 p.m., according to the Worcester District Attorney’s office. The road was closed to traffic in both directions for several hours.

One driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was transported via LifeFlight to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles by members of the Gardner Fire Department, according to officials. The identity of the victim was not released pending family notifications.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation by the Gardner Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police.
