Police Department Wins $100,000 For Its Viral 'Uptown Funk' Lip-Sync Video

A Viral Video

In order to qualify for the new CBS competition show Lip Sync to the Rescue, the Norfolk Police Department of Norfolk, Virginia, recorded an insanely viral video of their officers dancing it out to Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk."

The video got millions of views and qualified the squad to be one of the 30 competitors on the show. Over 1,000 groups applied.

Entering A Competition

The video was originally posted to the department's Facebook page as a response to the Corinth, Texas, police's challenge in July. The video went on to go insanely viral and earned them a spot on Lip Sync to the Rescue. Host Cedric the Entertainer kept the competition lively between Norfolk and the Seattle PD during the live show, with Norfolk eventually winning the day.

Taking Home The Big Prize

The department won $100,000 by taking home first prize, which is a pretty hefty chunk of change.

"This has been such an awesome experience," Public Information Officer William Pickering said during the live taping. "Thank you so much!"

Pickering explained that the video was largely filmed on a phone with some supplemental video equipment. Congrats, team!
