Police Close Las Vegas Shooting Investigation, No Motive Determined

No evidence found of conspiracy or second gunman in country music festival shooting that killed 58 people and wounded hundreds

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has closed its investigation into the October 2017 mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, as the Associated Press reports. In a report released today, the LVMPD announced that following their 10-month investigation, they could not determine the motive that drove Stephen Paddock to start shooting from his hotel room window at the Mandalay Bay hotel overlooking the festival on the Las Vegas Strip. 58 people were killed and hundreds were injured. Paddock killed himself as police stormed the room.

The LVMPD also said they found no evidence of a conspiracy or a second gunman. Joe Lombardo, the Sheriff of Clark County, stated there will be no further charges in connection with the shooting, according to the Associated Press.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal quoted Lombardo as saying in a press conference, “What we have been able to answer are the questions of who, what, when, where and how. What we have not been able to definitively answer is the ‘why’ Stephen Paddock committed this act.”
