Point Drive-In suspending operations this summer

Apr. 30—NORTHUMBERLAND — The Renn family, owners for 35 years of the Point Drive-In Theater, announced on Facebook this weekend that "with a heavy heart, we have decided not to open the Point Drive-in this year.

"After 35 years of amazing memories and movies under the stars, we have to let it go. Dave (Renn) is experiencing health problems, and it has become more than we can handle at this time."

The posting said the family will miss all of its customers.

"We are hoping someone new will step up and run it and we will help them in any way we can," the post said.

The Drive-In opened as the Arrow Drive-In in June 25, 1952 with John Wayne in "Flying Leathernecks." It was closed in 1956.

On April 27, 1957 it reopened as the Point Drive-In and has been named so ever since, under the ownership of David Renn.
