Denise and her husband, Jarid, say that their 10-year-old son, Zak, who has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, screams, curses, punches, and tells people he wants them to die. The couple, along with Zak and his younger brother, live with Jarid’s parents, Brad and Carol, who help take care of their grandchildren.

Denise and Jarid say Zak is closest to his grandmother and that he insists on sleeping in her bed most of the time. Carol says that’s because she’s been the primary parental figure in his life for years.

The family says no matter what they do - Zak does what he wants. “This is a very smart young man. He’s smart enough to recognize how to divide and conquer,” says Dr. Phil in the video above.
