Playboy is relaunching with OnlyFans-esque platform: See first new cover star

Playboy magazine is hopping headfirst into the digital age.

The iconic men's lifestyle magazine, which debuted in 1953, is set to be relaunched with a digital-first version. The digital magazine will accompany Playboy's exclusive online creator platform, similar to OnlyFans, which was relaunched in September.

"Playboy is reasserting its role as the hottest platform for the world’s most creative, daring, sexy, fun and thoughtfully rebellious creators," a press release from Playboy Enterprises states.

In anticipation of the magazine's digital debut later this year, Playboy released a special-edition cover shoot featuring internet personality and actress Amanda Cerny and shot by photographer Charlotte Rutherford. Cerny, a former Playboy Playmate, can be seen sitting atop a life-size carrot on the cover while wearing a platinum bustier top with matching bottoms and bunny ears.

"From becoming the Playmate centerfold of October 2011, to now being in the company of Marilyn Monroe, Dolly Parton and Kate Moss on Playboy’s cover, is a dream come true," Cerny said in a statement. "A Playboy creator is someone who is able to embrace their creativity, their sexuality and freely and unapologetically express themselves. I can’t wait to share more of my journey."

The digital magazine will feature Playboy's most successful and up-and-coming creators in editorial features, cover shoots and fashion spreads.

Playboy's premium online platform allows content creators to create intimate relationships with fans through "sleek profile designs" and exclusive content. Fans can either subscribe or pay to view content, message Playboy creators directly and get "special access" to creators' everyday lives.

While the creator platform is "inclusive across genres including music, sports, art, fashion (and) activism," all content creators must apply to Playboy’s editorial team before joining the platform.

"Our Playboy creator platform is the Playboy magazine for the 21st century," said Rachel Webber, Playboy’s chief brand officer, in a statement. "We’re putting the power of content creation in the hands of the creative community and giving them the tools to interact with and monetize their fanbases directly. Playboy has long celebrated the boundary pushers, the innovators, the disruptors and the ones moving culture forward."
