Montgomery's teenage singing sensation from NBC's "The Voice" has a special Thursday night concert ahead in his hometown, and it's free for everybody to attend.

"I'm excited about that. It's going to be great," said Ryley Tate Wilson, 16, who will be performing 6-8 p.m. HE'Ss with his band at Montgomery Whitewater's outdoor stage for the Get Down Concert Series.

This will be Ryley Tate's first visit to the city's new whitewater rafting and kayaking adventure facility at 1100 Maxwell Blvd.

"It's a free show, and it's going to be a lot of fun," he said. "It's a nice family event."

The show is happening a couple of days prior to another big hometown gig. On Saturday at 7 p.m., Ryley Tate will perform at the Alabama National Fair. He won't be the only one from his season of "The Voice" at the fair. Jerome Godwin III, a dental student in Montgomery will open for Ryley Tate at 6 p.m.

Riverwalk Wine Festival

Montgomery Whitewater partners with Girls on the Run for Fall 5K

Montgomery Whitewater is joining forces with Girls on the Run of South Central Alabama to host a Fall 5K run on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 8 a.m. The event culminates a ten-week program that teaches life skills to girls in third through eighth grade by engaging in fun running games and dynamic discussions that foster confidence, build peer connections and encourage community service. Participation in the 5K event is open to the public and all proceeds from the event will benefit Girls on the Run of South Central Alabama. Advance online registration is $25 and day-of registration is $30. In addition to the race, daily whitewater activities will also be available and can be purchased online in advance or in person at the park.
