It’s official: Platonic is returning.

Apple TV+ has doled out a second season to the comedy starring Rose Byrne (Sylvia) and Seth Rogen (Will), who play best friends (and only best friends). The duo also serve as executive producers on the series from their former Neighbors director Nick Stoller and his wife, Francesca Delbanco. In a statement, the co-creators teased: “Season Two spoiler alert: Will and Sylvia won’t get together this time either.”

Though the streaming service doesn’t reveal viewership metrics, it’s been busy hailing Platonic as a “hit comedy,” which it certainly is among critics. “Since the first episodes of Platonic debuted on Apple TV+, global audiences have been charmed by the hilarious, wildly fun and relatable friendship that Rose and Seth have brought to life through their charismatic performances,” added Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, in a statement.

News of a season two comes after the show was initially described as a limited series, though, in success, that often changes. In fact, in an interview with Rogen earlier this month, he explained the shift, at least as far as he was concerned. “Honestly, we had talked about [doing more] during the first season, but I get really nervous about how it’s going to be received. I’m not a count-your-eggs-before-they-hatch guy. I’ve done that thing where I drive around Friday night of opening weekend for my movies and go to the theaters and there’s no one in them,” he told The Hollywood Reporter, adding: “I really just wanted to see if we were happy with it when it came out — and if everyone else was happy with it. I was kind of nervous about how high my standards were for what we were doing, and I wanted to make sure that we could actually do it. And then once I saw that we could, I was like, ‘OK, we should keep doing it.’”

The half-hour is produced by Sony Pictures TV, where Stoller’s Global Solutions has an overall deal. In addition to Byrne and Rogen, Stoller, Delbanco and Conor Welch share executive producer titles. The series marked a reunion for Byrne and Apple, who’d starred in the streamer’s recently concluded dark comedy Physical. Looking ahead, Rogen will front in an upcoming comedy for Apple, which he will also write and direct.
