Platonic Renewed for Season 2 at Apple

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne’s Platonic chemistry is the gift that keeps on giving.

Apple TV+ has renewed the comedy series for Season 2. The news comes five months after the release of the Season 1 finale, which dropped in July.

“We’re so thrilled to have the opportunity to tell more stories with Seth, Rose and everyone at Apple TV+ and Sony,” series co-creators Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco said in a statement. “Season 2 spoiler alert: Will and Sylvia won’t get together this time either.”

The single-camera sitcom — which bowed May 24 and earned a TVLine reader grade of “B-” — reintroduced Neighbors duo Rogen and Byrne as Will and Sylvia, “a platonic pair of former best friends approaching midlife who reconnect after a long rift,” per the official logline. Luke Macfarlane (Bros) co-starred as Sylvia’s husband Charlie, while Tre Hale (Love and Monsters), Carla Gallo (Bones) and Andrew Lopez (Blockers) rounded out the Season 1 ensemble.

The July 12 finale featured a one-year time jump, at which point Will’s fiancée Jenna enlisted Sylvia to be their wedding planner.

“Since the first episodes of Platonic debuted on Apple TV+, global audiences have been charmed by the hilarious, wildly fun and relatable friendship that Rose and Seth have brought to life through their charismatic performances,” Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss said Thursday. “We can’t wait for viewers to see these characters encounter even more comedic mayhem in Season 2 thanks to our partners at Sony and to the brilliant minds of Francesca and Nick.”

No word yet on a release date for Season 2.
