PlaneWave Instruments to host open house and science expo this weekend at Adrian campus

ADRIAN — Science and technology will be on display this weekend as PlaneWave Instruments hosts its annual open house and science expo, "Shoot for the Stars."

The telescope company at 1375 N. Main St. in Adrian will open its doors to the community from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7-8.

"This event allows people of all ages the opportunity to learn and share a passion for science in a fun and exciting environment," a news release said.

Among the activities, interactive exhibits and campus tours are:

  • PlaneWave product line-up.

  • Make it-take it craft activities.

  • Laser Comm.

  • Institute for Student Astronomical Research (InStAR).

  • Meridian Machine Shop.

  • Solar System Stroll.

  • Robotics.

  • Telescope mounts.

  • Density of planets.

  • Solar telescope.

  • STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

  • Stomp rockets.

  • Above Pete's Garage Audio/Video Mentoring.

  • Star party, Saturday night only.

Tent Talks during the event will feature InStAR, PlaneWave experts and, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, University of Toledo astronomy professor Tom Megeath speaking on his research using the James Webb Space Telescope.

Food trucks from Mini Donuts n More, Little Grasshopper and Tecumseh Brewing Co. will be on campus.

Parking will be on the PlaneWave campus, with entry through the east drive on the south side of Curtis Road, PlaneWave special projects consultant Chris Miller said in an email. Vehicles will park on the grass in the northeast corner of the campus, with handicapped parking in the lot immediately east of the former school building. Entry to the campus will be from Curtis Road, not Main Street, Miller said. Signs will direct drivers on where to go to park.

Featured partners in the event include the Adrian Center for the Arts, Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute, Above Pete's Garage Audio/Video Mentoring, River Raisin Ragtime Revue, Lenawee Intermediate School District, Jackson College, Siena Heights University, InStAR and the University of Toledo.
