The first fringes of winds, rain and tornadoes that come with Hurricane Ian reached Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties on Tuesday night, and gave a nasty taste of what might be coming Wednesday.

Port Everglades

Udine said Port Everglades experienced tropical storm force winds up to 60 miles per hour, but that didn’t halt operations or interfere with fuel truck traffic.

“No injuries. No loss of life,” said the mayor. “But we encourage residents to stay inside today and off the roads.”

Delray Beach area

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said answering a 911 call from a woman trapped in her bathroom brought them to the damage done by a “possible tornado” in the Kings Point area, west of Delray Beach. PBCFR said they rescued the woman, took two people to the hospital and used high water vehicles to evacuate 30 people.

Whatever hit the area flipped over cars and damaged roofs either directly or by blowing objects into them, such as tree trunks.

Pembroke Pines

All Douglas Road traffic lights north of Pines Boulevard are out, Pines police announced just after noon Wednesday. This will be an FPL repair job.

The light at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Sheridan Street is also out. Drivers are reminded that if the intersection light is out and no traffic cop is present, by-the-book driving says treat the intersection like a four-way stop.
