Plane Crash Survivor Breaks Hearts With Her Voice on 'America's Got Talent'

On America's Got Talent, a young Kenyan woman and plane crash survivor named Kechi took the stage. Kechi shared with them the harrowing story of how she was one of two survivors in a plane crash that claimed 107 lives. Kechi suffered from severe burns and injuries that left her hospitalized, bandaged from head to foot and unable to move. She said, "Music was my escape and that's why it means so much to me." Throughout the painful surgeries and procedures to keep her alive, she always retained a dream to one day sing on stage. She didn't want her past to prevent her from fulfilling that dream saying, "I draw strength from it. And I draw strength from my loved ones and especially my mom who has given up everything for me. So I'm gonna give it everything I've got." And when Kechi did sing and give it her all, her story made her voice that much more powerful. Singing "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran, the sweet song took on new meaning as this woman with such a traumatic past belted out the touching lyrics. The judges were amazed by her performance and Simon Cowell gave her four yeses to advance. Kechi was overjoyed but maybe no one was more excited about those four yeses than Kechi's proud mom who was told the good news by Kechi over the phone backstage.
